Crossmaglen is the largest village in South Armagh. In local folklore its name originated from a well-known ale-house or shebeen, kept by a local man called Lennon, probably located at a crossroads, (Cros Mhig Lionnain) Cross of Lennon. The focal point of this picturesque village is the Cardinal O'Fiaich Square named after a local priest who became Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland.
Today Crossmaglen is famed for its warm welcome, fine food and ales, traditional music, sporting prowess and their famous GAA team Crossmaglen Rangers. The monthly traditional fairs take place the first and third Friday of every month and they showcase many local traditional arts and crafts as well as fine country produce. Crossmaglen is famed for its traditional music and horse fair, held annually in September.
