  1. Strangford & Lecale
    As Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Strangford and Lecale is named in part for Strangford Lough, but it also offers forested walks, opulent country gardens and beaches.
  2. The ferry links the beautiful Ards and Lecale Peninsulas and the villages of Strangford and Portaferry across the Narrows of Strangford Lough. The 10 minute ferry journey allows you to take in the stunning scenery of this Marine Nature Reserve.

      Strangford Lough is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is almost fully enclosed. It is the largest sea water inlet in Ireland and the United Kingdom and an important habitat for wildlife.  A regular car ferry links the picturesque towns of Strangford and Portaferry.  It is Northern Ireland's first Marine Conservation Zone and is a special area of conservation for wildlife.

      This stunning sea lough offers no less than 80 square nautical miles of paddling playground! From the fast-running tidal channel in the south,to the more gentle waters around the islands there is something for canoeists of all abilities.

      When you are visiting Delamont Country Park in Killyleagh check out our suggestions of other places you might enjoy.  If you are into history, walking or just want to enjoy some family fun we have a lot to offer.  Dust down your walking shoes, pack a picnic or enjoy lunch or dinner in a nearby restaurant.

The Delamont Strangford Walk is a way-marked trail located in Delamont Country Park, Killyleagh, Count Down.  It is 2km long and is suitable for wheelchair users.  All the walking routes in Delamont Country park are interlinked and can be added to.  This walk is on the shores of Strangford Lough with fabulous views to the Mourne Mountains.  It is the perfect place for the family to get out into nature.

        The spiritual centre of our area, Downpatrick is a beautiful and historic town built on the rolling drumlins of Lecale. One of the oldest towns on the island of Ireland, it has a long association with Saint Patrick who spent much of his time in and around the area and died here in the early 5th Century. His legacy remains and whether you come here on pilgrimage or just to simply say hello, there is a unique atmosphere in this small town that you won’t find anywhere else.
