Newry and Mourne Museum EHOD 2023

Bagenal's Castle, 36 Castle Street, Newry, County Down, BT34 2BY
Bagenals Castle

About

Guests will be taken on tours of Newry and Mourne Museum, which is housed at Bagenal’s Castle, a 16-century fortified house. The castle’s early history is closely connected with the Nine Years War, the Flight of the Earls, and the Ulster Planation.

The tour will finish in the main function room of the Museum, the Banqueting Room, was originally the Great Chamber, where on occasion special guests were dined and entertained.

Our visitors will be treated served ‘mediaeval fare’, learning more about the type of food and drink that were popular in this period and about the history of the building, the rooms, and galleries, as well as artefacts on display, including a restored portrait of Sir Nicholas Bagenal.
