Dance Artist Dylan Quinn has just commenced the second leg of his nine county tour this, having travelled across Antrim, Monaghan, Donegal and Cavan in June, Dylan will now travel to 11 locations in counties Tyrone, Derry, Down and Fermanagh throughout the month of August.
Luail - Ireland’s National and all-island dance Company commissioned Dylan in late 2024 to create a bespoke mobile Dance Corner; an invitation to audiences across the province to come along and have a dance.
This month, local dance-artist Dylan Quinn (Dylan Quinn Dance, Anything to Declare, My Grandfather’s House) invites you to dance with him, as he kicks off the final leg of his tour of Ulster with his unique, travelling Dance Corner.
On 15–16 August 2025, Newry City's Hill Street will come alive with music and movement, followed by a seaside session in Newcastle on 19 August. The tour then heads to Warrenpoint on 20 August, bringing this unique, mobile dance experience to the heart of each community. Free and open to all, the Dance Corner offers a chance to step in, move to the beat, and connect through the joy of dance. The Dance Corner (#DanceCorner) will be held 12-4pm daily and is free to attend, no booking is required.
This custom-built Dance Corner designed and constructed by local artist Jon Kelly, will begin its Ulster-wide tour, bringing exciting and innovative dance experiences to people outside of conventional spaces, and in their locality. Dylan is encouraging people from the locality to dance with him in the Dance Corner for 5 minutes, or for the whole afternoon, before he packs up and moves on to his next destination!
In the Dance Corner – a commission by Luail – Ireland’s National Dance Company in partnership with Maiden Voyage Dance – Dylan will invite people of all abilities and backgrounds to meet him in this purpose-built space, to dance, move or just be together.
This very special and bespoke event is open and welcome to all. Dance Corner is part of an all-island dance project entitled To This I Belong – a commission celebrating home, landscape and community.
Speaking about the project, Dylan Quinn said: ‘I am delighted to be presenting Dance Corner and really looking forward to touring the wonderful province of Ulster to meet and dance with people from across the nine counties. Dance Corner was an idea I had many years ago in which I wanted to create a social dance space in every town, village and city that would offer an inclusive "Dance Corner" for people from all walks of life to connect and feel good by dancing together, kind of like a free water fountain but with dance rather than water. I am extremely pleased and proud to have been commissioned by Luail as part of To This I Belong project and to be able to bring the Dance Corner to life”.
Artistic Director of Luail, Liz Roche said: ‘It’s our intention to support the creation of new work within the communities of the dance artists we are commissioning. We want these dance artists to be able to make excellent, captivating and inventive works of ambition and significance in their home-place. Luail is mobilising our team and investing in and creating new networks between the company, these extraordinary dance artists and their communities, all with a view to develop exciting and meaningful collaborations in towns and cities around the country, now and in the future.’
