Newry and Mourne Museum, Bagenal's Castle, Castle Street, Newry, County Down, BT34 2BY
Merchants' Quay Newry

About

18th century Newry was part of a global economy exporting Ulster linen and butter across the world. Newry merchants facilitated this trade and occasionally invested in plantations and slaves in the Caribbean. This talk follows the career of Jemmy Blair whose family made a vast fortune from sugar plantations in South America.

It will also touch on other Newry people with Caribbean connections.
