Set for summer! Go to Gaol!

Down County Museum, The Mall, English Street, Downpatrick, County Down, BT30 6AH
A family exploring the restored cell block

About

Did you know that Down County Museum used to be a Gaol? From 1796-1830 it was the old County Gaol of Down.

Everyday this summer at 2pm, our expert museum staff will give a free tour of the old Gaol and our permanent galleries.

See the original cells and hear about prison life, find out about the prisoners, why they were here and what happened to them.

With good behaviour, the tour should last about 45 minutes, and at the end, we'll let you leave...probably. But you are welcome to stay and wander around our galleries at your own pace.

To join the tour, be at the museum shop for 1:50pm any day this summer.
