Newry and Mourne Museum will be open to the public 8 May, Bank Holiday Monday from 10.00am until 4.30pm, with some activities for our younger guests.

Staff will host two shield arts and crafts workshops. Children will learn more about heraldry, the medieval system of identification used during battle, which developed into the art form used in creating family coats of arms and crests.

They will get the chance to create a new family crest (or use the old one) and make their own shield.

The sessions start at, 10.30am until 12pm and again at 1.30 until 3pm.

There will also be a Coronation hunt around the Museum galleries so children will have a chance to see our ‘regal’ artefacts.

These activities are free of charge, but numbers are limited, and pre-booking of places is advisable. An adult must accompany children.

If you wish to book or require more information, please email Declan.Carroll@nmandd.org.
