Turnip House Tea Room and Craft Workshop

About

Craft Workshop, Tea Room, Garden Restoration and Vernacular Renovation Project.

Craft
We make hand crafted Celtic knitwear and felt products. Visitors are welcome to see the making process, buy from our range of goods in stock, or commission a special piece.

Tea Room
Our Tea room is situated in the Mournes Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Looking down from the Dromara Hills we have with stunning views over the landscape to the Mournes. We offer a selection of homemade soups, bread and cakes.

Felt Workshops
We run one day courses in the magical art of felt making. Whether you want to start learning, or advance your skills, you will have a fun, fulfilling, creative day that you'll remember, and some lovely artefacts to take away with you.

Garden
We are in the process of restoring the gardens around Turnip House, and converting the land into native woodland, vegetable and fruit gardens.

Vernacular Renovation
We are the proud, but slightly amazed owners of what was once a great farm situated in the heart of County Down. Over the last couple of hundred years, this would have been a thriving, lively place full of animals, people, their lives and activities. Much evidence of this is still around us.
Abandoned almost 40 years ago, the buildings have slowly deteriorated, some disappearing altogether, others almost unrecognizable. It is our task and privilege to rescue and renovate what is here and create new purpose for the place, as Craft Workshop, Tea Room, Bed and breakfast destination, and family home.

Visit Us
We are only 1 hour from Belfast or 2 hours from Dublin, situated in the heart of the Mournes AONB.
Visitors are welcome to stroll around and watch the developments.

Weather - For those interested or curious in Weather Data, John now gathers weather data for that location and records on his new weather station - this you can check out on our website.

In 2015 the Turnip House were awarded a Gold Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
