Slieve Gullion Forest Park offers the unmissable opportunity to experience tranquil woodland trails, stunning views across the Ring of Gullion, Mourne Mountains, Cooley Peninsula and Armagh Drumlins and offers top class facilities for walkers and families.
With plenty of family fun and things to do, from following Fionn's Giant Adventure (previously known as the Giant's Lair) in the wonderful Hawthorn Hill Forest Nature Reserve and woods and then along the forest trails. Explore the Adventure Playpark or take a turn in the ornamental walled garden, where you will find picnic benches, an outdoor performance stage, an al fresco coffee bar (open in the summer) and a wildlife pond with covered seating areas. A fun packed day out for all the family making memories.

Why is the Slieve Gullion Forest Trail closed?
PUBLIC NOTICE – TEMPORARY CLOSURES AT THE SLIEVE GULLION MOUNTAIN DRIVE
Due to extensive Forest Service tree harvesting, the Mountain drive at Slieve Gullion Forest Park will be closed to vehicles (Monday through Friday) from Monday 27 November 2023 to Friday 1 March 2024.
The drive will re-open at weekends and will be fully accessible throughout the Christmas holidays (22 December 2023 to 2 January 2024 inclusive).
The closures will also extend to pedestrian access between Monday 11 December 2023 and Friday 19 January 2023 (excluding the aforementioned Christmas holidays). There will be no access from the Park to the summit of the mountain throughout this time.
Dangerous machinery will be operating on site so we would ask all visitors to please respect localised access controls and signage. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

When the Forest Drive is open, a way-marked trail leads from the scenic drive to the ancient passage tomb on the south summit of Slieve Gullion, continuing on to Cailleach Beara’s Lough the Bronze Age Tomb and down the north side of the mountain.
A halloween-themed festival runs annually in October, with something for all the family. Visitors have an opportunity to encounter mythical people, hear their stories of a world that has been forgotten and explore their woodland realm through the magical living storybook tour.

We have something for everyone and the Slieve Gullion Adventure Playpark is guaranteed to keep kids of all ages delighted and thoroughly entertained. It includes a specially designed toddler’s area, adventure and play equipment for the older kids, the “Slieve Gullion ZIP” and even a trim trail for the adults. And once you have all burnt off some energy on the slides, climbing frames and outdoor gym equipment, made a wish on the wishing chair and made your way out of the maze, treat yourselves to a delicious treat at the Slieve Gullion Courtyard – you’ve earned it!
The Slieve Gullion Adventure Playpark is a must visit for the young and young at heart alike, providing award winning play facilities for children and young people.
The Forest trails, magnificent 10 km Scenic Forest Drive (also an alternative exit but is currently closed - see above), Red Squirrel Safari and the mysterious trail of Fionn's Giant Adventure all begin nearby so there is plenty on offer to explore and enjoy.
The Slieve Gullion Courtyard, set in the midst of the park, is home to a Visitor Information Office (with toilets facilities adjacent) and the popular Synge & Byrne Café, – an essential stop off after a busy morning on the swings. The Slieve Gullion Passage Tomb is well worth a visit, with an annual Winter Solstice (21 December) event dating back thousands of years.
Fionn's Giant Adventure
Fionn's Giant adventure (formerly known as the Giant's Lair Story Trail) is a popular guided walk at Slieve Gullion Forest Park.
