Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has secured funding for the Mourne Gullion Strangford Sustainable Tourism Network to go on a study visit to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 March 2026. The visit will depart from Newry at 8am on 2 March and return around 9pm on 3 March 2026.

The purpose of the visit is to experience a certified sustainable destination in action and meet with Clare County Council, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark team, and local tourism businesses. This will help us consider:

1. Whether the MGS Geopark should pursue sustainable destination certification.

2. Whether the Clare County Council sustainability model is suitable for our region.
