About

Animal Wood is a specially created nature-inspired play space for Castlewellan Forest Park, intended for children aged between 4-11 years old. Located overlooking the Peace Maze and accessed by a pathway leading from the main car park Spent time climbing inside a squirrel’s drey or become a fox for the day!

Animal Wood is an imaginative, natural-space playground that blends carved wildlife and climbing challenges - perfect for active kids - and surrounded by forest and maze fun.

Key Features of Animal Wood: 

- A squirrel’s drey tower, carved animal sculptures (badger, fox, red squirrel, bird of prey) and a spider‑web climbing frame. 

- Rustic wooden play structures: a Moorish Tower-style climbing tower, rope‑bridge, slide‑pole, hollow tree-stump slide and Red Kite nest. 

How to get to Animal Wood in Castlewellan Forest Park

Leave your car at the main Car Park and follow the short path past the Peace Maze to reach Animal Wood. 

Are dogs allowed in Animal Wood?

Dogs are not permitted in the Play Park or the Peace Maze. Dogs are welcome at Castlewellan Forest Park but must be kept under control at all times.
