About

A unique trip to a contemporary farmhouse and jazz music venue in the Dromara Hills in County Down to meet writer and poet Maggie Doyle who will tell you the story of the small, dairy farm where she grew up and how it has been re-purposed to create an intimate setting for Irish and international jazz musicians to perform their music.

You will meet Maggie in the farmhouse kitchen where she will read extracts from her book ‘Mountain Notes – A Nature Diary’ which tells the story of her emotional connection to the farm and the stunning landscape all around it.  You will then be escorted into the music barn where Maggie’s husband, musician and educator Dr Linley Hamilton, will explain the history of jazz in Northern Ireland and the development of Magy’s Farm as a landmark venue for international and local bands.  Linley will then play a set of jazz standards and original compositions on trumpet accompanied by an internationally acclaimed, Irish rhythm section.

Refreshments will be available, and you can purchase a copy of ‘Mountain Notes’ and/or Linley’s albums on site, join the mailing list for events at the farm and receive a QR code for the unique Magy's Farm playlist.
