    Hawthorn Hill Forest Nature Reserve is located within the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), in Slieve Gullion and offers magnificent views of the Ring of Gullion peaks. The walk throughout the forest follows the craggy heather-covered hills of a circular ring dyke volcano that erupted more than 50 million years ago. The Ring of Gullion is an extremely important ring dyk and has featured in geological debate and theory over the past 160 years.
  2. Known locally as the ‘King’s Ring’, this court tomb has a prominent position in the southeast part of the rugged Slieve Gullion ring-dyke.
