Annalong Cornmill EHOD 2025

About

Annalong Cornmill is situated by pretty Annalong Harbour, near the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, this once busy Cornmill was in operation from the early 1800's to the 1960's. For generations local farmers brought sacks of oats to be milled into oatmeal.

It was built in the early 1800s and operated until the 1960s, before closing it was one of the last working watermills in Northern Ireland. The building contains many of the original components of the inner workings that benefited many farmers at the time. It has a grain drying kiln, three pairs of millstones and a 15ft waterwheel (a form of technology over 2000 years old) and a 1920's 2 Marshall “hot-bulb” 20hp engine power it.

The beautifully restored mill features a multi-media exhibition where you can experience Mourne life of the past and follow the progress of the oats through the milling process. You can also learn all about the famous stonemen of Mourne and the schooners that left the harbour carrying prized Mourne granite to help build the industrial cities of Britain.
