About

Welcome to "Donkey Trail Through Time," an immersive 2-hour guided tour set in Robert's childhood home, a farm with four generations of farming history. Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Ballynahinch, within an area known as the "Drumlins" or "Little Hills," this farm is now home to 25 therapy-trained donkeys, a testament to Robert's childhood passion and dedication.

At Kinedale Donkeys, which opened during the pandemic to prevent Robert from having to sell his beloved donkeys when he lost his job as a hotel receptionist, visitors embark on a journey through time and heritage. They'll bond with their own working donkey, experiencing the joy of driving it around private farmland while taking in the natural beauty of the surroundings.

As visitors traverse the landscape, they'll learn how Irish farmers historically trained donkeys to work the fields, transport fertilisers from the shore, and haul granite from the Mourne Mountains. Despite being relatively new to Ireland, donkeys have quickly become integral to the farming landscape.

The tour provides insights into the evolution of agricultural technology, from traditional implements to modern mechanisation, and explores the cultural practices surrounding farming, such as hanging holly bushes in cow sheds to ward off fairies.

Amidst breathtaking scenes of Slieve Croob, rivers, and woodland, visitors will have ample opportunities to capture stunning photographs and create lasting memories. For those looking to enhance their experience, there's an optional riverside picnic, carried by donkeys and baskets, featuring locally sourced delights like sourdough bread, cured meat, and elderflower cordial.

Join us for a journey through history, culture, and natural beauty, where each step brings you closer to the heart of Irish farming heritage. Book your experience today and embark on an unforgettable adventure with Kinedale Donkeys.
