About

Incorrigibles and Unfortunates: Gaols in Downpatrick

Join Linda McKenna to explore Downpatrick's four seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth century gaol sites and the stories of their prisoners. The walk will finish at the Gallows Hill, the traditional execution site in Downpatrick where many 'incorrigibles and unfortunates' ended their days.

This event is part of the Heritage Walking Festival, co-organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and The Saint Patrick Centre, taking place in Downpatrick and beyond and connecting you with our local heritage and environment in an exciting range of themed walks.

This is an easy/moderate walk (please note, there is a steep climb to Gallows Hil).

Weather appropriate gear is recommended, practical footwear is required.

Meet outside Down County Museum at 13.50 to ensure prompt departure at 14.00.
