Lost Garden Tour with our Head Gardener

Montalto Estate, Spa Road, Ballynahinch, County Down, BT24 8PT

About

When preparing to open the estate to the public; workers uncovered stone slabs in an unexpected area. After some investigation, it was identified that this led to a forgotten garden. We believe that over the years, this area was simply left unattended and became totally overgrown and unidentifiable.

On this tour, you will find out about how Montalto has breathed life back into this forgotten area and see the work undertaken by the gardening team. This tour will include explaining the extraordinary tales of Montalto including why the plants stored in the Lost Garden greenhouse were of such importance that the sale of Montalto in 1910 almost fell through because of them.

Your tour will finish with your own free time to enjoy the beauty of the Trails & Gardens.

**Due to the terrain on this tour, it is not suitable for people with additional mobility requirements. Please wear suitable footwear and dress for weather conditions on the day. Each participant will be given individual audio equipment so they can enjoy the experience while maintaining social distancing.**
