The Jurassic Express

About

Dare you experience the dangers and excitement of the Jurassic Express?

Get out the safari suit and dust off your pith helmet – it’s dinosaur time! Join our heritage diesel train for a trip to a mystery destination* to enjoy the country’s original and best dinosaur train.

This is a perfect day out for the little (and not so little) dinosaur fans in your family. Board the train to begin your dinosaur adventure, travelling down the line to an 20-30 minute interactive prehistoric learning experience that the whole family can enjoy. After the show there’s plenty of time for photos and fun with the dinosaurs before boarding your train home.

Back in Downpatrick there’s time to explore our carriage gallery full of old locomotives and carriages, visit the signal cabin, and buy a souvenir.

*OK, it’s not a mystery, it’s really Inch Abbey station!

What happens during my visit?

  • Your journey starts at our Downpatrick station. Please arrive at a good time to be sure not to miss your train.
  • Before or after your train journey visit the face painter to get that prehistoric look – all included in the charge.
  • When the train arrives at Inch Abbey, you will be invited to walk the short distance down to dinosaur park, where there will be a 20-30 minute interactive learning session with a Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor.
  • There will be plenty of chances for photos and selfies with the dinosaurs.
  • Snacks and drinks will be sold on board the train from the buffet counter.

This event is intended for families with young kids, generally aged 10 or under. It would likely not appeal to older kids or adults who are not bringing young kids with them.

The experience lasts about one hour in total.
