About

Mrs C's "Bake me a traditional loaf and eats & treats"

In beautiful Dundrum in County Down, set within Ireland's newest Geopark, Mourne, Gullion, Strangford UNESCO Global Geopark, Mrs C's "Bake me a traditional loaf and eats & homemade treats". An experience not be missed!

Under Mrs C's careful guidance, you will learn how to make traditional wheaten bread in her home kitchen, overlooking the stunning mourne mountains. Wheaten bread, which is also referred to as brown soda bread in parts of the country, is a traditional staple in our diet here. It is believed to have originated in 1840, when bicarbonate of soda/baking soda was first introduced to the country. There are basic principles, but recipes can vary. You will learn using Mrs C's very own recipe.

An exceptionally warm welcome awaits you on this experience that reaches far beyond the art of traditional bread making. With your wheaten bread safely baking in the oven it's time to pour the tea and sample some of Mrs C's own home baked goods. Being an advocate of the fantastic local produce available on her doorstep you will be treated to delights such as her chocolate stout traybake, made using a  Whitewater stout, brewed locally, which she tops with a frosting containing an amazing double cream liqueur produced by another local whiskey blender, Two Stacks Whiskey. You will have the opportunity to taste delicious traditional fruit soda bread with Irish butter and homemade jam, made using her own homegrown produce. You will not leave hungry.

Once your bread is safely out of the oven and you congratulate yourself on how clever you are to have mastered our traditional bread making, your own loaf will be packaged ready for you to take with you to enjoy later.
