BREAK 4 THE BORDER

About

Get ready for an unforgettable running experience like no other! The Break 4 the Border Half Marathon & 10K invites you to lace up your shoes and take on one of the most scenic and unique races on the Irish running calendar.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the newly completed Greenway between Newry and Carlingford, this brand new cross-border race offers runners the rare chance to travel from Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland entirely on foot – all while soaking up some of the most spectacular views the island has to offer.

The Half Marathon kicks off in the heart of Newry, and after a brief road section, runners join the picturesque Greenway at Albert Basin. From there, the route winds along a peaceful path of tarmac and soft shingle, 90% traffic-free, hugging the shimmering coastline of Carlingford Lough. You'll pass through the charming village of Omeath before finishing in style at the vibrant Carlingford Marina, where a festive atmosphere awaits to celebrate your achievement.

The 10K begins just a stone's throw from the border and follows the same scenic route along the Greenway, offering stunning vistas and the same warm welcome at the finish line.
Charity Partner is the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who do trojan work helping families all over Ireland bring home their loved ones who have lost their lives abroad.

Whether you're chasing a personal best or taking your time to soak in the natural beauty, the Break 4 the Border Half Marathon & 10K is a must-run event—a celebration of community, movement, and the majestic landscape that connects us.

Don't miss your chance to be part of history – run across the border, embrace the views, and experience the magic!

PLEASE NOTE THAT HALF MARATHON RUNNERS WILL PARK IN NEWRY. 10K RUNNERS WILL PARK IN CARLINGFORD AND WILL BE BUSED TO THEIR START LINE. BUSES WILL RETURN FROM CARLINGFORD TO NEWRY BETWEEN 12-2PM FOLLOWING THE RACE.
