About

Newry Mela is a vibrant multicultural festival ,a brand new Event for Newry, Northern Ireland. The word "Mela" comes from the Sanskrit word meaning "gathering" or "to meet", and it traditionally refers to a community celebration or fair. The Newry Mela celebrates cultural diversity, inclusion, and community spirit, showcasing a mix of music, dance, food, arts, crafts, and performances from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. It's typically a family-friendly event and is known for bringing people of all cultures together in a positive and festive environment. The primary goals of Newry Mela are: Celebrate Cultural Diversity: To showcase and honor the wide range of cultures and communities living in Newry and the surrounding areas. Promote Inclusion and Integration: To bring people from different backgrounds together, encouraging mutual understanding, respect, and social cohesion. Foster Community Engagement: To provide a platform for local communities, artists, and performers to connect, collaborate, and participate. Educate Through Arts and Culture: To raise awareness and appreciation of different traditions through music, dance, food, crafts, and storytelling. Create a Welcoming Environment: To offer a family-friendly and accessible space where everyone feels included, valued, and safe. Newry Mela is a one day event , which will be held on 20th September 2025 from 13:00-20.00 pm . Newry Mela is the first time event in Newry , which we would like to continue to celebrate in every year that will create an inclusive society where people respect and value the different ethnic groups.

Jennings Park is located at Clanrye Avenue, Newry, BT35 6EH
. Nearby landmarks include the Newry Leisure Centre, Daisy Hill Hospital, and Newry Town Hall
.

From the City Centre (Newry Town Hall area):

Head northwest on Bank Parade toward the town centre.

Continue onto Clanrye Avenue.

Move past the Newry Leisure Centre on your right.

Jennings Park will be on your left, shortly after the leisure centre.

From Daisy Hill Hospital:

Take Hospital Road heading northeast toward Clanrye Avenue.

Turn left onto Clanrye Avenue, then continue as above. The park is just ahead on your right after the Leisure Centre.

Public Transport Directions

The Monaghan Street bus stop is nearby and about a 5-minute walk from Jennings Park
.

The Newry railway station is also close, making it very accessible via public transport.
