The word "Mela" comes from the Sanskrit word meaning "gathering" or "to meet", and it traditionally refers to a community celebration or fair. The Newry Mela celebrates cultural diversity, inclusion, and community spirit, showcasing a mix of music, dance, food, arts, crafts, and performances from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. It's typically a family-friendly event and is known for bringing people of all cultures together in a positive and festive environment. The primary goals of Newry Mela are: Celebrate Cultural Diversity: To showcase and honor the wide range of cultures and communities living in Newry and the surrounding areas. Newry Mela is the first time event in Newry , which we would like to continue to celebrate in every year that will create an inclusive society where people respect and value the different ethnic groups.
