'Imbolc Festival, Ring of Gullion' is a community-based heritage festival rooted in the ancient landscape of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its surrounding hinterland. Taking place throughout the Ring of Gullion from Wednesday 28 January to Sunday 8 February 2026, the festival embraces a powerful moment in the seasonal calendar, encompassing St Brigid's Day on 1 February 2026 and the older pagan celebration of Brigid, goddess of light, fertility and renewal.
Derived from the Irish meaning "in the belly," 'Imbolc' marks the turning of the year, a time when winter begins to loosen its grip and the first signs of light, growth and possibility stir beneath the surface. It is a celebration of renewal, creativity and connection to place.
Across South Armagh, 'Imbolc' will offer a rich programme of events and experiences inspired by tradition and contemporary practice in the Ring of Gullion. Participants can engage in St Brigid's Cross making, singing, creative writing, and hands-on heritage crafts including spoon carving and woodturning, all guided by skilled local practitioners.
Grounded in landscape, lore and living culture, 'Imbolc' invites people of all ages to gather, create and reflect, honouring ancient customs while nurturing a shared sense of belonging and renewal at the threshold of spring.
