Warrenpoint Road, Warrenpoint, County Down, BT34 3AU
Narrow Water Keep - Medieval Swordplay Demonstrations EHOD 2025

About

Sure, you've seen them in the movies, but have you ever wondered how medieval swords were really used? Join Medieval Combat Group for talks and demonstrations on the art of medieval swordcraft!

Medieval Combat Group invite the public to a demonstration of European martial heritage at Narrow Water Keep, Warrenpoint. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch Historic European Martial Arts (HEMA) training and sparring demonstrations, meet Northern Irish Historical fencers, and find out more about the use of swords and armour in medieval Europe.

All of the surviving European fencing treatises the group works with date to the 15th and 16th centuries, spanning the timeframe of the end of the Norman Keep which once occupied the site, and the era of the building of the towerhouse. The swordcraft demonstrated will be as close as possible to entirely contemporary with the occupation of Narrow Water.
